Founding

Viscovery was founded by Gerhard Kranner in 1994 under the name Eudaptics as a spin-off of a software research center in Vienna. After first years of technology development, the company successfully released one of the first commercial software packages world-wide for self-organizing map applications.

Funded with venture capital, the company developed the comprehensive Viscovery® suite for explorative data mining and predictive analytics with a focus on visual cluster analysis. The funding period ended with the successful market introduction of the Viscovery product range in 2002.

Timeline

Viscovery was acquired in 2007 by the former Biomax Group, which focused on knowledge management solutions for the life science industry. As an independent company within that group, Viscovery acted as a competence center for data mining.

In 2008, Viscovery was listed as the only data mining vendor in continental Europe in Gartner’s “Magic Quadrant 2008 for Customer Data-Mining Applications”. For many years now, Viscovery software is being used by numerous customers from different application areas, such as life sciences, manufacturing, banking, insurance, telecom, media, retail, as well as research organizations and universities in all continents.

In 2023, Viscovery became a subsidiary of the German companies Microstep AG and STAT-UP GmbH. The association of these companies offers joint customers expertise in machine-learning, statistics, and consulting in numerous fields from a single source.
