In 1994, Dr. Gerhard Kranner founded eudaptics software gmbh as a spin-off from a Vienna-based research center; the business later transitioned to Viscovery Software GmbH. For more than two decades, he was responsible for the company’s strategic direction, financial matters, and operations. At the end of 2021, Dr. Kranner stepped down from his role as managing director, marking the end of the founder-led era.

During this period, he led the company through the development and growth of the Viscovery product line. The fundamental concepts behind the Viscovery software suite, as well as a number of key innovations, are attributable to him, including the SOM-Ward clustering procedure, the Local SOM Prediction method, and the Connectivity clustering algorithm.

In 2026, Dr. Kranner acquired the complete Viscovery software estate and continued the Viscovery business under Viscovery Software e.U., with support from long-standing members of the Viscovery team. Today, he provides strategic leadership and oversees licensing, maintenance, and support for existing installations, as well as selected consulting projects.

Dr. Kranner has a background in theoretical physics and obtained his PhD from the Vienna University of Technology with a thesis on quantum field theory.
